Marcus Stroman is leaving New York for the Windy City.

The 30-year-old right-hander signed a three-year, $71 million contract with the Cubs that includes an opt out after the second season, according to ESPN. According to the report, he will make $25 million in 2022, $25 million in 2023 and $21 million in 2024, and the deal also includes $2 million escalators for 160 innings pitched in ‘22 and ‘23.

“Chicago has always been one of my favorite cities. Culture and passion everywhere. Beyond excited to pitch in front one of the best fan bases in all of sports,” Stroman wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to everyone in the city for the warm welcome. I can feel it. Let’s get to work!”

Stroman had a strong 2021 season for the Mets, pitching to a 3.02 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP while making 33 starts.

The Mets acquired Stroman before the 2019 trade deadline. He had a 3.77 ERA in 11 starts for the rest of that season before opting out of the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

The Long Island native’s deal comes two days after the Mets struck a three-year, $130 million deal with Max Scherzer to form a one-two punch with Jacob deGrom atop the rotation. Stroman seemed to see the writing on the wall that his time with the Mets was over.

“I would love to be back on the squad next year,” Stroman wrote Friday in a since-deleted tweet. “I’ve proven that I can pitch in NY…others usually crumble under that New York pressure. However, I know a source who says the front office rather [go for] the other pitchers on the market. I’m going to dominate wherever I end up!”
